Questions and AnswersQuestions and Answers

What is Komodo Platform?
Komodo provides multi-chain blockchain technology solutions. Komodo’s multi-chain architecture is unique because it provides a customizable, independent blockchain with independent infrastructure to every project that chooses to build with Komodo’s technology. Whereas other blockchains platforms are merely a single blockchain with support for smart contracts and decentralized applications, Komodo gives each and every project an independent blockchain with the option to support their own smart contracts, tokens, and dApps. Every project that builds with Komodo has the opportunity to create their own blockchain platform.
What is an Atomic Swap?
An atomic transaction is an indivisible and irreducible series of database operations such that either all occur, or nothing occurs. A guarantee of atomicity prevents updates to the database occurring only partially, which can cause greater problems than rejecting the whole series outright. In cryptocurrency this translates to a trustless exchange. Komodo's BarterDEX and HyperDEX dApps use an atomic swap protocol that is blockchain agnostic and allows traders to swap different coins (e.g. convert Bitcoin to Komodo) without exposing your private keys to a third party. This is known as a "peer-to-peer", or "decentralised" exchange.
What is a Z Transaction?
Komodo is a zero knowledge proof blockchain, this provides KMD with a privacy layer. The platform has two types of addresses: 1. T-addresses: public addresses i.e. Bitcoin type ( Known as transparent addresses, start with the letter "R" ) 2. Z-addresses: uses zksnarks to shield transaction data i.e. Zcash type ( Known as shielded addresses, start with the letter "z" ) Note: When we send funds from a T - address to a Z- address, the transactions are shielded. After that same or identical amounts can be transferred back to the T - address. This Process is called Round-trip transactions. Types of transactions that can be made : T- address to Z - address Z- address to Z - address Z - address to T - address How to Perform Z - Transactions In Agama Open Agama Native after Its fully synched Go to receive section, Create Z- address Take Backup of Zaddress Private Keys Send some KMD funds from T - address to Z - address, It takes around 1 - 2 Mins to process the transactions and to confirm your funds In wallet. When you want those funds back, you can send that funds back to T - address, In this way you can shield your transactions, without compromising Privacy. Limitations : Native wallet only helps to get Z- transactions and the Wallet.dat file withholds all the private keys. Neither Electrum nor Agama SPV mode are able to retrieve necessary data for parsing shielded outputs. For this reason it is only recommended to use Native Mode.
What is a seed?
A seed or passphrase is a random string (24 words in Komodo's case) that generates your private keys. One seed generates one set of keys (public and private) in Agama and BarterDEX.
What is Jumblr?
A decentralized native tumbler built into the Komodo Platform ecosystem. Jumblr leverages Komodo’s anonymous (zero-knowledge) features to provide a service that is much more efficient than its centralized counterparts and does not require the users to trust any entity with their coins. So, how does it work? Simple Answer: Through a sequential logic and internal swaps, zk-snarks anonymize Bitcoin/Altcoins through atomic swaps to KMD and back to its original state.
What is a Parallel Chain (Assetсhain)?
A Parallel Chain (often referred to as Assetchain) is a independently created blockchain (by a user, business or any other 3rd party) that inherits all of Komodo's features like BarterDEX compatibility, Zero Knowledge Privacy, dPoW, etc. but also has custom specifications such as the custom coinsupply and custom rpc-port. More custom features are currently in the pipeline to get added. Parallel chains use the delayed proof-of-work-dpow algorithm and thus are as secure as Bitcoin. This makes them the first solution to decentralised tokenization that is as secure as Bitcoin. Some Komodo assetchains include DEX, SuperNET, REVS, Bitcoin Hush and MNZ (Monaize).
What is the difference between addresses that start with "R" and addresses that start with "z"?
Komodo Platform is built upon and extends the Bitcoin protocol. It also uses zero knowledge technology. Addresses which start with "R" behave exactly like Bitcoin's, including their globally public properties and we refer to these as "transparent addresses". Addresses which start with "z" include the privacy enhancements provided by zero-knowledge proofs (pioneered by Zcash) and we refer to these as "shielded addresses". It is possible to send KMD between these two address types.
